Artist’s Statement
Kari Lipke, Whittney Barth, and I took these photographs of people in our church and neighborhood communities in Lent 2009. They show the many ways that our own ordinary hands are vehicles of blessing, means of doing God’s work in the world. “God’s Work. Our Hands” is a key phrase in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America right now, as this article by Bishop Mark Hanson eloquently explains.
This exhibit reminds all who walk through our doors that we are part of the ELCA; that it matters what we do with our hands, in our daily living; and that our life together is vibrant and fun.
